Osun Election: Civil Society Applauds INEC, Security Agencies

A Coalition of INEC accredited Civil Society Election Observers for the just concluded July 16 Governorship in Osun State have called on losers of the keenly contested election to congratulate the winner, Senator Ademola Adeleke for his deserved victory.

The Civil Society organization at a press conference addressed in Osogbo on Monday said the election was relatively peaceful despite some minor violence and skemishes recorder during the voting period.

The National Coordinator, Comrade Fedelis Nweke, the secretary, Comrade Peter Nwokolo respectively appluded the election umpire( INEC), security agencies and other major Stakeholders who made the exercise peaceful.

Nweke who blamed the violence that erupted on some polling units as a result of lack of voters education disclosed that despite all odds the election has be adjudged to be credible, free and fair by most of the observers who monitored the election process.

According to him, there is no perfect election any where in the world even in United States of America, and as such Nigeria Electoral process is gradually taking shape adding that there is the need for improvement.

He told journalists that the organization during the monitoring of the election made some observations among which were the urgent need for voters education by both politicians and various civil societies organizations.

The National Coordinator who condemned the vote buying, thuggery and violence witnessed during the election hinted that if the unwholesome activities of unscrupulous individuals are not checked, it will put a question to the entire process.

While urging those who lose the election to see themselves as co-winners by immediately sending their congratulatory messages to the winners also enjoined the winner to be magnanimous in victory for interest of sustainable people in the State.
