By Nafisat Arogundade, Osogbo
Ahead of Tomorrow’s governorship election in the state of Osun, religious leaders in the state have emphasized the need for the inclusion of women in political participation at all level.
The leaders also appealed to the citizens to go out en-mass to vote for candidates of their choice, advising them not to trade their votes for money.
The appeal was made during the interreligious dialogue and solidarity forum organized by the Justice development and peace makers’ center (JDPMC) in conjunction with Muslim and Christian women to educate women on the need to participate in politics.
The workshop with the theme “Promoting peace to create enabling environment atmosphere for peaceful and credible election and development in Osun State” provided participants the opportunity to deliberate and discuss having a peaceful gubernatorial election in the state.
Different religious leaders charged the people of the state to build on the success recorded in the last poll in Ekiti by mitigating the spate of violence against women in politics, with an appeal to everyone to make the political space safe and free for all.
They urged the candidates and supporters to abide by the peace accord recently signed by the gubernatorial candidate to ensure peaceful conduct of the polls.
Those who spoke at the event are; Imam Abdulsalam Akinwumi, REV. FR. Thaddeus Ajayi , Alhaja Saidiyah Oladapo, and Chairperson WOWICAN, Dudusola Iyabode.
