A member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Adegoke Olajide says the creation of the State 25 years ago has been justified to be a worthwhile enterprise.

In a message to congratulate the Government and people of the State, Hon. Olajide, the member representing Efon constituency in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, observed that it is clearly evident that the State had been transformed from its idyllic rural nature of 25 years ago to an evolving modern State.

He stated that investment in infrastructure and other sectors of the economy since the creation of the State had changed its socio-economic landscape.

The Legislator also noted that the existence of Ekiti State had provided the platform for increased political participation of its people and given them the opportunity to drive the development of their respective communities in a manner that was not possible during the old order.

He however appealed to all actors in the Ekiti political space to eschew politics of bitterness, preserve the homogeneity of the State and avoid actions that can polarize Ekiti people, noting that such would retard its progress.

He lauded the sacrifice of the State’s founding fathers, who against all odds pursued their convictions, mobilized resources to ensure the realisation of the dream of Ekiti people to have a State of their own where all citizens had an equal stake and enjoyed equitable rights.

Hon. Adegoke Olajide, who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions and Vice Chairman of the Committee on Investment, Trade and Industry also saluted all the public servants who have contributed, in one form or the other, to the development of the State over the years.

He stated that present level of development in the State gives confirmation that their labours and contributions were not in vain.

Hon. Olajide particularly commended the incumbent Governor of the State – Dr. Kayode Fayemi for his policy drive to restore the lost Ekiti values and reclaim the lost glory of the State.

According to him,” rigorous implementation of that policy by the Governor Fayemi led administration has resuscitated the micro and macro economy of the State which has been battered before the advent of the administration.”

Hon. Olajide stated that regular payment of entitlements of Government workers and retirees, as well as settlement of other Government obligations and execution of infrastructural development projects despite the limited resources available, significantly contributed to the improved local economy.

He remarked that it was noteworthy that the present administration had successfully brought back the International Development Partners and numerous private investors who fled the toxic governance regime which hitherto existed in the State thereby making it possible for Ekiti State and its people to benefit from the development initiatives of the partners and investors likewise.

While felicitating with the people of Ekiti State, Hon. Adegoke charged them to keep hope alive and continue to support the present administration in its strides to build a formidable economy and establish the State on the path of sustainable development.

CityMirrorNews reports that Ekiti State is in Southwest region of Nigeria, declared a state on 1 October 1996 alongside five other states in the country by the then military government under head of state, General Sani Abacha.

As one of the newest states of the Nigerian federation, it was carved out of the territory of old Ondo State, and covers the former 12 local government areas that made up the Ekiti Zone of old Ondo State.

On creation, it had 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs), having had an additional four carved out of the old ones. Ekiti State is one of the 36 states (inc. Federal Capital Territory (Nigeria)) that constitute Nigeria.[3]
