Police Parade Suspected Killers Of Modakeke Indigenes, Other suspects in Osun

Osun State Police Command on Wednesday paraded four suspects allegedly involved in the killings of some Modakeke indigenes over farmland dispute.

It would be recalled that two Modakeke indigenes were in June along with Apata village on their way to farm, while another five persons were gruesomely murdered in August this year at Alape village.

The arrest of the suspects was disclosed by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, while parading the suspects at the Command headquarters in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Wednesday.

According to police boss, the five suspected killers are Akingbala Olakunle ‘m’ a.k.a All Stand, Owoniyi Segun ‘m’ a.k.a Agbede, Daramola Muideen ‘m’ a.k.a Ede, Shina Adeyemi ‘m’, and Awotinde Elijah ‘m’.

The police commissioner stated, “The event that led to this murder incident was as a result of land / farm disputes between the two communities viz; Modakeke/Ile-Ife, It would be recalled that on 11/05/2021, two people were murdered on their way to their farmlands. These people were from Modakeke indigenes.

“This incident generated anger in the mind of Modakeke youths, and some hooligans from Modakeke armed themselves with different weapons to take revenge against Ife indigenes, presumed to be behind the killing. The police arrested the situation and obstructed their ugly attempts. Several peace meetings were held, and undertakings made to prevent a repeat occurrence.

“Surprisingly on 20/08/2021 at Alape village, five men whose names are; (1) Oladele Ismaila ‘m’ (2) Oladele Afeez ‘m’ (3) Taye Animashaun ‘m’ (4) Shina ’m’ and one other, were going to their farmland. Unknown gunmen ambushed and killed them. This unwarranted and barbaric murder provoked the Modakeke indigenes, because they presumed that the people killed were their people. They decided to take revenge on the Ifes, their efforts were thwarted by the prompt intervention of the Police and other sister agencies.

“I would like to add that the five deceased were not from Modakeke as erroneously insinuated by the people of Modakeke. This ugly incident made the Police to swiftly swung into action that led to the arrest of five key suspects as highlighted above. Some other suspects were arrested by the Police. They are undergoing investigation to ascertain the degree of their involvement in the case. Adequate security measures have been placed by the Police to ensure this act of lawlessness is put under control.”

Olokode added that the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigation for prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command recovered a suspected stolen vehicle in the state.

The vehicle was recovered by the police operatives along Sekona/Ife Expressway on September 6, 2021.

According to the CP, “On 6th September, 2021 at about 1145hrs, the surveillance patrol team while on routine patrol along Sekona/Ife express road sighted one Honda Civic, white colour with the occupants, quickly jumped out of the car and ran inside the bush on sighting the Police patrol vehicle.

“The team move closer to the vehicle and found the car with its ignition key still on. The area was combed for possible arrest, but it yielded no dividend. Investigation is ongoing to track down the suspect,” the police commissioner stated.

In another development, police operatives in the state have arrested two suspected cultists in the state.

The suspects were, however, identified as Saheed Lukman ‘m’ ages 32years, and Adeolu Adeniyu ‘m’ ages 35 years.

Olokode, while parading the suspected cultists, disclosed that the items recovered from them include one expanded AK47 ammunition, One Nigerian Army I.D card, one empty cartridge, and one dagger.

The police commissioner said, “On 10th June 2021, at about 2200hrs, the two suspects conspired among themselves and broke into a phone-accessories shop of one Ekundare Temitope ‘m’ at Conoil Filling station area round-about, Ilesa and stole away his handsets valued about #11,880, 000.00.

“Two suspects were arrested and confessed to be a member of Eiye Confratanity. Meanwhile in the course of searching the house of the suspects, one empty AK47 ammunition shell and empty catridge together with one Nigeria Army I.D card with other incriminating items were recovered in their possession.

“They are also suspected to have killed one man whose identity is unknown but suspected to be a rival cult group member.

“Investigation is still ongoing while the suspect will be charged to court at the completion of the investigations,” Olokode added.

Police operatives have arrested a suspect for allegedly stealing a Generator in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The suspect, identified as Adesina Olaide ‘m’ aged 30 years, was paraded by the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, at the police headquarters in Osogbo on Wednesday.

Olokode said, “On 18th September, 2021 at about 2215Hrs, police surveillance patrol team while patrolling along Ayetoro area, Osogbo, accosted one Adesina Olaide ‘m’ carrying a Generator. During interrogation the suspect confessed to have stolen the Generator from a shop.

“Efforts were made to locate the owner, one Adesokan Kehinde ‘m’ of Owoeye Street, who identified the suspect as his former staff.

“Investigation is still ongoing while the suspect will be charged to court at the completion of the investigation

The Osun State Police Command has also announced the arrest of two suspected armed robbers in the state.

The suspected armed robbers, according to the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Olawale Olokode, were arrested at Iwo Grammar school area, Iwo.

The police boss revealed the name of the suspects as Akinlabi Toyese ‘m’ aged 27 years, and Nurudeen Azeez ‘m’ aged 35 years, adding that one locally-made pistol was recovered from the suspected armed robbers.

He said, “On 26th August, 2021 at about 9:30pm at Iwo Grammar school area, Iwo, the two suspects armed with one locally-made pistol blocked one Abdulafeez Soliu Ishaq ‘m’ with motorcycle and robbed him of a bag containing (1) International Passport (2) one POS machine (3) Phone accessories, all valued at about #570,000.00.

“When they were given a hot chase by the members of vigilante and were arrested with one locally-made revolver pistol and one live ammunition. After the conclusion of the investigation, the two suspects were charged to court and remanded at Ilesha Correctional facility.”

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police has assured the members of the public of safety, adequate protection just as he enjoined the residents to be wary of youths with bags sling across their neck as so many dangerous things are contained therein.

Olokode noted that “effective patrol, information and stop and search, with visibility of police at strategic junctions have not only helped to checkmate the occurrence of crimes and criminalities, but also assisted to detect and arrest of culprits in Osun State.

“Members of the public are enjoined to continue to trust and believe in us towards policing efficiently and effective protection of their lives and properties. The bad ones, i.e criminals are similarly advised to either repent now, relocate, or shown the red card,” the Osun State Commissioner of Police said.
