A socio-political group, Yoruba Progressive Forum (YPF), has commiserated with Yoruba people over the death of Olowu of Osun kingdom, Oba (Dr.) Adebooyega Dosunmu, Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade, and Justice Bolarinwa Babalakin.
The group described the death of the two prominent Yoruba monarchs and justice Bolarinwa Babalakin as a great loss to Yoruba race.
In a statement jointly signed by the National Coordinator of the group, Alhaji Olalekan Lateef popularly known as Asiri Ede and Publicity Secretary Ojeyemi Elijah and made available to newsmen in Osogbo over the weekend described the reign of late Soun of Ogbomoso and Olowu of Owu kingdom as peaceful one.
However, the group said it received the death of these prominent Yorubas with rude shock.
The YPF said the death of Oba Ajagungbade, the third , marks the end of a glorious 48years rule.
“Soun is one of the most successful Obas not only in Oyo state but across the South-West. As a matter of fact, it’s a loss to Yoruba traditional institution.
Commenting on the demise of Olowu of Owu kingdom, YPF said: “Owu tribe is an important tribe not just in Ogun State, but in the Yoruba land.
” The Owu people are one of the four components that made up Egbaland.
” The Owu stool is a very old stool and Owu people are known to be enterprising, fearless. They are known to be very courageous, which is the Owu spirit.
“The richness of this culture and tradition, we will continue to promote as we promote the richness of our culture and tradition in Ogun State,” he said.
The group, however, said that contributions of the late monarch to drama, culture, community development and the media would not only be missed by the people of Owu kingdom, but by the state and the country at large.
On their tribute to Late Justice Babalakin, YPF described his demise as a great loss to the nation.
According to to the group, the death of Justice Bolarinwa Babalakin is a great loss, not only to the family, but also to the nation.
“As a matter of fact, justice Babalakin groomed many of his generation in the legal profession.
“We pray that God will comfort the children and grandchildren.”
