Hon Elliot Adeyemi, the caretaker Chairman of Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State, has began the rehabilitation of Isibo/Yidi road in Ede, barely five days after he was sworn in as Chairman.

CityMirrorNews reports that Adeyemi is among the 69 newly-appointed local government caretaker chairmen swore in by the Executive Governor of Osun, Gboyega Oyetola on Monday, July 12.

The local government chairman has, however, hit the ground running, by swinging into action, with the rehabilitation of the Isibo/Yidi road, which had been in a deplorable condition over the years.

Adeyemi who is a Christian, while speaking on the motive behind the road project said the Isibo/Yidi road is significant because it is the road that links the Ede metropolis to the town’s Muslim prayer ground.

Adeyemi added the gesture was to complement the effort of Governor Gboyega Oyetola in his bid to make life more comfortable for the residents of the state.

He further explained that the special attention given to the rehabilitation of the road was equally to enable residents and farmers transport their agriculture/farm produce to the town easily.

“During our swearing in ceremony, our amiable Governor, His Excellency, Gboyega Oyetola directed all the new Council heads to hit the ground running and ensure that they deliver urgently, the dividends of democracy to the teeming citizens as part of efforts to permanently register the name of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the hearts of the citizens and leave an indelible footprint in the sand of time.

“I see this as a challenge, and when I resumed office the following day, I identified the Isibo/Yidi road that needed attention and urgent rehabilitation (with stonebase) because it’s a road that link the Ede township to the Muslims’ prayer ground.

“Grading this road will also help give people living in the areas, a sense of belonging, so that they will not think that the local government has abandoned them.

“Before now, the road was in a deplorable state, as commercial and private vehicles found it very difficult to ply, but with the current grading, vehicular movement have become faster and smoother.” he said

He therefore urged the people of the council area to continue to support administration of Governor Oyetola and ensure his victory in the coming election saying Governor Oyetola really meant well for the people of Ede and that’s why he has been ensuring the people of the town enjoy dividend of democracy.

One of the residents, Alhaji Jimoh Alaba appreciated the Chairman, saying the gesture would aid easy movement of Muslims during the Eid-el-Kabir prayer.

Alhaji Alaba who said he was surprised by the reason for the rehabilitation of the road by Hon Elliot, who is a Christian, said his action, would further strengthen the peaceful religious co-existence among the residents of the council.

He said the Chairman and the governor deserve special prayer during the festive period just as he prayed for them to continue to excel in their dealings.
