Gunmen Kidnap Soldier, Teacher, Dental Therapist In Ibadan

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers struck again on Monday, at Onipe Community, Idi Ayunre along the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode road, Oluyole local government area.

The latest attack saw three women kidnapped.

According to sources, the gunmen emerged from the bush around Onipe Community, at about 8:20a.m., and shot sporadically, before taking the victims away to an unknown destination.

The names of the kidnapped victims were given as Mrs Temitope Okeowo, Mrs Abosede Adebayo and Mrs Bola Ogunrinde.

Mrs Ogunrinde who was said to be a soldier was kidnapped while driving a Toyota RAV-4, with registration number AGL 66 FY.

While Mrs Okeowo is said to be teacher at the Itamarun Comprehensive High School, Oru-Ijebu, Ogun state Mrs Adebayo, a dental therapist, it was gathered, works at the General Hospital, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun state.

Two men were said to have lodged a report on the kidnap incident at Idi Ayunre Division at about 10a.m.

The reports, according to a source galvanised the Idi Ayunre Divisional Police Officer into action as he was joined by the Officer-in-Charge of Anti-Kidnapping Unit and his team as well as operatives of Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), local hunters and vigilante group members on a search hunt.

As at the time of filing the report, the effort is still ongoing in search of the victims for rescue, and the abductors for arrest.

Confirming the kidnap, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adewale Osifeso, a Deputy Superintendent of Police said the combined teams of AKS, Idi Ayunre Division, other tactical teams, as well as local hunters and vigilante group, are on the trail of the gunmen.

He added that the security agents were making efforts to rescue the victims and arrest the suspects.

Osifeso said “Yes, it is confirmed. As we speak, combined team of AKS, Idi Ayunre Division, other tactical teams, as well as local hunters and vigilante groups are actively on the trail of the gunmen, in a bid to rescue the victims and arrest the suspects.”

It will be recalled that the abductors had descended on the road linking Oyo and Ogun states for kidnapping, and carried out series of operations in the last couple of weeks.

On Tuesday, April 6, three quarry site workers and a female commuter were kidnapped on the road.

They regained their freedom on Friday, April 9, after much effort by the police who were in the bush for the days the abduction lasted.

Also, on March 15, the kidnappers struck at Ibuso Gbooro, close to Dally Junction, by a quarry site, and abducted two bank officials, two commuters and a palm wine tapper.
