Birthday: Oyetola Aide, Omowaiye Offers Free Surgery On Breast Lump, Hernia, Others

…Beneficiaries Appreciate Omowaiye For His Kind Gesture

Over 100 adults and children in Osun State on Saturday benefited from free surgery tagged the Ilerioluwa Medical and Surgical Outreach.

Herniorhaphies, herniotomies, excision of various lumps, and hydrocelectomies surgeries were conducted on patients by the medical team.

The medical fiesta which was sponsored by the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr Remi Omowaiye in partnership with Gifty Organic Therapy and friends was held at the State Specialist Hospital Ilesha, Osun State.

Speaking at the venue of the surgery, Engr Omowaiye said, “Yesterday was my birthday so I felt instead of throwing a big party, let’s complement the effort of the government by sponsoring surgical mission and this is done in partnership with Gifty Organic Therapy and Hope floats initiative. There are a lot of people with health challenges that we can support. Also, the Governor Gboyega Oyetola administration have done a lot in the area of health so we just felt instead of throwing a party, our personal intervention can further be a consolidation on government huge investment in the health sector”.

The surgery covers four areas and over 100 people have been booked for surgery. We have about 40 children and 70 adults, both males and females. It is a thing of joy that we are putting smiles on their faces. Beyond this surgery, there will be post-surgical treatments to monitor those patients.”

The beneficiaries are from all over the state, we can not bring partisan politics to health issues. This is to commemorate my birthday. We have patients that the medical team removed lumps from their breasts, some have been tested carrying this challenge for a over a decade, but could not afford the cost of surgery.”

Dr Simeon Afolayan the chairman of Hope floats initiative who led the team of the experienced surgeons and former Chief Medical Director of Osun State University Teaching hospital, Osogbo, Prof Femi Fadiora who was part of the team, explained that the surgical intervention covered cases that patients would not necessarily be admitted in the hospital. Over 100 medical personnel took part in the Outreach which included the Osun Commissioner for Health Dr Rafiu Isamotu and CMD of Osun State University Teaching hospital,Osogbo

Dr Afolayan who commended the efforts of the sponsor said the exercise was limited to cases such as hernia, breast lump, outer lumps and lipoma.

Professor Femi Fadiora who is renowned surgeon described the gesture of Engineer Omowaiye to sponsor the general surgery as worthy of emulation, noting that each of the beneficiaries would not have paid less than 200 thousand naira, while others could be as expensive as 400 thousand naira in private health institutions.

Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, Mr. Mutiu Adepoju whose son was operated upon appreciated the Commissioner for coming to their aids at this point in time. He said he was asked to pay #380,000 for the same surgery in a private hospital and when he could not afford it he resulted to fate until help now came from God through the Commissioner.

Another beneficiary, Mr. Funminiyi Isadare noted that he would have had his herniotomy removed a long time ago, but for the financial constraints, thanking the commissioner for the kind gesture.

Many women who had the surgery performed on their children betrayed their emotions as the rolled on the ground in appreciation of the Commissioner.
