A youth group in the ancient town of Ikirun, Ikirun Development Vanguard (IDV) has called on the state government of Osun and kingmakers in the town to be fair and transparent in the selection of the new Akirun of Ikirun, saying it unequivocally rejected the ‘wuruwuru’ selection of one Prince Olalekan Akadri as Akirun-elect .

In statement made signed by the Assistant Secretary General, Wasiu Qodiri, and made available to CityMirrorNews in Osogbo, on Sunday, the group appealed that whoever would be selected to fill the vacant stool of Akirun should be morally sound.

The group further said such person must be educated, pious and has excellent track record.

It, however, rejected the ‘purported’ selection of Prince Olalekan Akadiri from Obaara ruling house as the Akirun-Elect noting that the Gboleru Ruling House should be allowed to produce the new Akinrun for equity and justice.

Ikirun Development Vanguard, which claims over 5 thousand membership within and outside the country said as an organization that upholds and believes in fairness and justice, it stands firmly with Gboleru family, as it is their turn to take over the vacant stool at Akinrun Palace.

This is said to be evident in a written agreement among the three royal families.

“Hence, we unequivocally reject the ‘wuruwuru’ selection of one Prince Olalekan Akadri (popularly known as Pangila) reportedly from Obaara Ruling House,” it says.

“Ikirun Development Vanguard also Implored the kingmakers that whoever they settle for among Gboleru princes should be morally sound and educated individual, a verifiable, sustainable and substantial means of livelihood, and be pious and faithful individual with past excellent track records.

“We equally urge our elders and elites to speak with one voice and lead by good example for the younger ones and incoming generations to have meaningful things to emulate from them.

“The Kingmakers and other Chiefs should be called to order and be admonished to stop embarrassing Ikirun in the face of the public. Recent unedited audio leakages of the stage-managed and kangaroo election process that favoured Pangila and the staged-managed face saving recording released by those involved in the scandals are too embarrassing for all progressive indigenous people of Ikirun land; we’re too sophisticated for such childish and shameful act.

“Any individual or groups with personal politically corrupt motives or interest should desist from interfering with the selection process of Akinrun; Ikirun town should be put above any individual, parochial ambitions. This should be seen as a strong warning from patriotic indigenous people of Ikirun, under the umbrella of Ikirun Development Vanguard, IDV, home and abroad,” the statement reads in part.

The group concluded by calling on citizens and other residents of Ikirun land to shun violence, vandalism and any other forms or acts that could destabilize the peace and harmony we enjoy in Osun State, as they pray for and eagerly await the peaceful selection of the new Akirun.
