The Deputy Governor of Anambra state, Dr. Nkem Okeke has been disowned by his kinsmen from Enugwu-Ukwu community over comments that he defected to the All Progressives Congress in the state.

Some community leaders said Okeke’s move was absolutely self-serving and had nothing to do with the community of the Njikoka constituency.

Speaking on behalf of the leaders, Chief John Okafor said Okeke was only trying to hide behind one finger by claiming he took the action because of them.

According to Okafor, the Deputy Governor only claims to represent his community when it is convenient.

“There is information that he decamped because he wants a federal appointment after his tenure as Deputy Governor. You know he’s not really relevant around here so he wants to align with the federal government so he can stay in power.”

Okafor said that was why Okeke had to go all the way to Abuja to announce his defection.

It would be recalled that Okeke based his decision to defect to the All Progressives Congress on him pursuing the best interest of his Njikoka constituency.

His kinsmen however said Okeke should leave them out of his action which exemplify greed, selfishness and personal interest.

In his reaction, the Deputy National Chairman South West of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Deacon Samson Segun Olalere said Okeke’s actions and inaction were of no consequence in the grand scheme of things.

Olalere charged Anambra people to concentrate on what matters and come out enmasse on Saturday to vote Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the APGA flagbearer, so that the state would continue on the right path.

He advised them not to fall for the gimmicks of desperate politicians who are only being pushed by the thirst for power, adding that APGA remains the best choice for Ndi Anambra.
