Just In: Kaduna Suspends LG Election In 4 LGAs Over Insecurity
The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) has suspended the local government election slated to hold Saturday in four local government areas that are prone to insecurity.
The commission said on Friday that the suspension followed a security report that it would be impossible to conduct a peaceful local government elections in Kajuru, Birnin Gwari, Chikun and Zangon Kataf local government areas.
The commission’s chairman, Dr Saratu Binta Dikko-Audu said the suspension was to protect lives and property, including those of election staff and materials.
She said: “The election in these local government areas will now hold on Saturday 25th September 2021.
“It is our belief that the security operatives would be able to fully deploy to these local government areas for election on the stated date in order to prevent any breakdown of law and order as well as loss of lives and property.”
She called on politicians and residents of the state to conduct themselves in a manner that would ensure a peaceful election.
She said the commission was committed to conducting a free, fair and credible election.
