Election: Agboola Promises To Uplift Osun NUJ Council

A former Vice Chairman of Osun State Broadcasting Corporation chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state, Alhaji Lateef Olajide Agboola has said he was able to serve his chapel meritoriously as secretary and vice chairman and that he would ensure that the union moves to another level if emerged victorious.

The council through its Electoral Committee otherwise known as NUJECO had fixed February 13, 2020 for the conduct of the elections.

Agboola who is a committed member of NUJ, Osun council is vying for Secretary position.

The former Secretary of OSBC Chapel in a statement made available to CityMirrorNews on Tuesday in Osogbo explained that he was contesting as the scribe in a bid to contribute his own quota to the upliftment of the union.

He said “my main purpose of contesting for secretary position is to have my own impact on moving the Union forward at another level, having served my chapel meritoriously and selflessly as Secretary then and later as vice chairman.”

“I am competent and I have always proved that a true leader must be someone who has his own mind, not a puppet.”

Lateef Olajide Agboola was born on September 22, 1976 to the family of Chief and Chief (Mrs) Tijani Agboola of Olaese’s Compound, Amola Street, Ikirun. He was born at Good luck Village via Oniparaga, Odigbo local government area of Ondo state where his father had a very large cocoa and cola nut farm.

He started his Primary education at Community Primary School, Oloruntedo, there in Ondo state before he left for Lagos and later back to Ikirun in the old Oyo state where he completed his primary education at NUD 1 Primary school, Ikirun. His secondary education was acquired at Onaolapo Memorial High School in Ikirun. After he passed out secondary school, Lateef Agboola worked briefly as a primary school teacher at Kidsluck Primary school (Private) and later returned to Ikirun to form his musical band (Meaningful Decent Organization) in 1997.

His thirst for knowledge didn’t allow him to stop even amidst scarcity of resources when the parents were not financially buoyant and no help from any quarter. After over seven years of struggle he got admission into Osun State Polytechnic, Iree through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, where he read Mass Communication.

His internship brought him to OSBC in 2004 after which he was retained on Voluntary service without pay due to his brilliance and love for journalism.

After a while, he got freelance appointment with OSBC in 2007 when he was through with his HND and later permanent appointment in 2013. His search for knowledge continued at the premier university, The University of Ibadan where he bagged Master award in Communication (Broadcasting and Broadcast Media).

Lateef Agboola was NUJ secretary, OSBC chapel, for two consecutive terms between 2010 and 2016 and Vice chairman of the chapel before he showed interest in the state Council Secretary.

He had in the past attempted to become assistant secretary of the council but was disqualified because of his freelance status then and also aspired to become vice chairman of the state Council but was also blocked by internal politics of his chapel. CLAM as he is fondly called is a very responsible family man, who is very active in Journalism, Research, Music and Activism.
