Covid-19: NUJ Shuts Adamawa Centre, Orders Correspondents To Go On Self-isolation

Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Adamawa State chapter has directed
members of the correspondents chapel to go on self-isolation with immediate effect.

The chairman and the secretary of the union in a press statement regretted that the first index victim was a correspondent.

They urged all union members across the nine Chapels to start operating from home with effect from Thursday 23rd of April 2020.

The statement jointly signed by Chairman, Ishaka Donald Dedan and
Secretary, Fidelis Jockthan also declared a shutdown of activities and businesses at the NUJ press centre with effect from Friday 24th April 2020.

It added that only accredited Journalists from various media will cover daily briefings by the ‘Adamawa COVID-19 Containment Committee’, directing all Journalists to adhere strictly to safety measures against COVID-19.

The NUJ also called on the COVID-19 Committee to urgently provide Journalists covering its daily briefings and other activities with necessary safety materials and resources to enable them perform their function effectively.

The NUJ urged the public to always see Journalists as partners in progress as well as critical stakeholders in the fight against COVID-19.
