Plateau YOWICAN Elects New Leaders

The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, Plateau State, has elected new leaders with Pharmacist Markus Kanda Audu returned as the Chairman.

The umbrella body of all Christian youths on the Plateau conducted elections of its new executives on Thursday 20th August, 2020. The election was superintendent by the YOWICAN National Secretary, Arc. Abel Divine Ogwuche.

The election which was held at the Assemblies of God Church, Hwolshe in Jos was conducted peacefully with delegates drawn from the five (5) Blocs of CAN, seventeen (17) Local Government Areas of Plateau State, Directorates and Exco of YOWICAN.

The outcome of the elections clearly showed the will of God and the desire of the youths in determining who their leaders should be for the next three (3) years under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

The youths returned their Chairman, Pharm Markus Kanda Audu (CCN bloc) for a second term with 44 votes and his opponent, Barr. Panmak Mark Lere (TEKAN/ ECWA Bloc) who scored 33 votes will serve as Vice Chairman. The youth leaders equally voted Pastor Nehemiah Nanmwa Michael (CPFN/PFN Bloc) as their Secretary with 48 votes while Bro Samson Akinniyi ( OAIC Bloc) who scored 29 votes will serve as Assistant Secretary. Bro Mendel Nyam (CSN Bloc) was returned unopposed for a second term as Treasurer.

The elections was graced by past Chairmen of the body in persons of Rev Sylvester Dombin, Hon Adamu Bala and Bro Bistu Johnson. Similarly, Bro Musa Misal (YOWICAN Chairman for 19 Northern States & FCT Abuja) was in attendance.

The newly elected Chairman, Pharm Markus Kanda Audu in his acceptance speech appreciated the youths for the confidence reposed on the newly elected Exco. He assured them of their willingness to serve YOWICAN to the best of their ability and will work as a team. He promised to continue with the legacies of the past Excos and improve in areas of Youth Pilgrimage, Sisters Fellowship, seek ways for Self-sufficiency in financial matters, improve on grassroot presence of YOWICAN in the LGAs, Youth Trainings, Youth Camp Ground Development, Voicing out concerns of the Youths and the Church in Plateau State, Advocate for the protection of the rights of Christians and Christian Communities in Plateau State.

The Chairman solicited the prayers and support of the youths in working together to achieve great success to the glory of God and for the growth and expansion of God’s kingdom. He equally assured that the youths will support CAN, Plateau State ably led by Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo to achieve the organization set goals to the glory of God. The climax of the event was a special prayer offered by Rev Sylvester Dombin to God for the youth leaders to excel in the new task before them.

Meanwhile, the Plateau Baptist Conference Youth Conference, PBCYC, have congratulated the newly elected executive members.

In a terse statement issued and signed by the body’s President and General Secretary, Bro Emmanuel Dang and Barr. Dayo Oyadiji respectively, specifically felicitated the returned YOWICAN Chairman who is the immediate past President of the Baptist youths in the state.

The statement read:

“The Executive Committee and the entire youths of PBCYC, heartily congratulate our leader, an amiable gentleman and a purposeful leader on his re-election as the Chairman, Youth Wing of CAN for a second term in office.

“Sir, your re-election as Chairman, YOWICAN for another term in office did not come to PBCYC as a surprise considering your track record as a goal getter, a bridge builder and a purpose-driven leader which we are all witnesses to and beneficiaries of.

“We congratulate you, Sir and we pray for wisdom, knowledge and strength and a successful tenure as you pilot the affairs of YOWICAN for another term.

“The President of the PBCYC, the entire PBCYC EXCO and the entire PBCYC Family pledge their continuous loyalty and support towards ensuring that you have a successful tenure.

“May the good Lord guide you as you continue this herculean task of leading the Christian Youths in Plateau State. Once more, Congratulations Sir.”

YOWICAN is the umbrella body of Christian youths in Plateau State and the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN.
