Kwara Assembly Considers 22 Reports In First Year

Kwara State House of Assembly In its first legislative year considered 22 landmark reports that have helped positively in reshaping governance in the state.

The Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Yakubu Danladi Salihu, who disclosed this on Wednesday at a plenary to mark the first anniversary of the state legislature, listed the reports which include the forceful and unlawful disengagement from Service of five Senior Officers of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service; the recovery of Alimi Chalet; the illegal acquisition, appropriation and conversion of Government Property situated at Ilofa Road, by the Civil Service Hospital, GRA, Ilorin and a petition by some staff of Kwara State Television Authority “against the General Manager of the station, Alhaji AbdulFatahi Adebowale.

Other reports, according to the Speaker, are the Petition against the 16 Local Government Councils In Kwara State for Misappropriation, Wastage, Misuse, Embezzlement, Diversion of Statutory Allocation, other forms of Revenue and Paralization of Government at the Councils and the dearth of Teaching staff and Infrastructural Decay In Basic and Senior Secondary Schools In Kwara State.

The Speaker recalled that as parts of its oversight, the state legislature monitored the headcount of the personnel of the Local Government and the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) with particular reference to personnel cost.

Rt Hon Salihu said that the 9th Assembly has succeeded in changing the old narrative in the conduct of legislative business in the state “by breaking all barriers and raising the bar.”

He acknowledged the harmonious work relationship with other arms of government in the last one year.

“Governor AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman deserves special recognition for his prompt attention to Resolutions forwarded by the Honourable House and for constituency projects embarked upon for Honourable members in their various constituencies,” he said.

All the Honourable Members who spoke on the review of the activities of the House in the last one year extolled the sterling qualities of the Speaker, Rt Hon Yakubu Danladi Salihu and the level of cooperation among the members towards legislative excellence.
