Makinde Talks Tough, Warns NURTW Of Violence Ahead Of Inauguration
By Abiodun Ogunrinde, Ibadan
Oyo State Governor-elect, Engineer Seyi Makinde has warned any member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) or any other group or association in the state for that matter, who are planning to disrupt the peace of the state before, during or after the Swearing-In ceremony.
Engr. Makinde stated this in a statement issued by his Spokesman, Prince Dotun Oyelade, on Tuesday.
The Governor-elect made this disposition following a rumoured alleged plan to foment trouble from Wednesday by the warring factions over leadership position of the union.
The governor-elect said he does not have a favoured group and no one is above the law, warning that he has discussed the issue with the Commissioner of Police to clamp down heavily on any troublemaker.
Makinde then assured all citizens including market women to go about their lawful duties as the new administration is determined to protect everybody without fear or favour.
He said “we will make life uncomfortable for those who profit from violence, and ensure that all the citizens operate their normal lives without intimidation or fear,” Makinde said.
