How Tambuwal Won Sokoto Supplementary Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as the winner of Sokoto state governorship election

He scored a total of 512,002 votes to beat Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 511,660 votes. The votes margin is 342.

In the supplementary elections that took place Saturday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 25,515 votes in the 136 polling units cancelled in 22 local governments of the state, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 22,444 votes.

Recall that the APC scored 486,145 in the March 9th governorship elections, while the PDP scored 489,558, leaving a margin difference of 3,413 votes.

The cancelled votes of 75,403 had made the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare the polls inconclusive.

Declaring Tambuwal as winner of Sokoto guber polls, the State Collation/Returning Officer, Prof. Fatima Batul Mukhtar said, “That, Tambuwal Aminu Waziri of the PDP, having won majority votes, is hereby declared winner.”
