The Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Jos, Plateau state, Rev Sunday Fabunmi has said that the foundation of Christianity is hinged on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ after the crucifixion.

Fabunmi said this during his Easter Sunday sermon held today noting that Easter celebration is not about cooking and dressing gorgeously but obeying Christ and doing His will.

In the sermon titled “Walking in the Power of Christ’s Resurrection”, he said that death and resurrection of Jesus Christ plays a major role in Christianity. He noted that it was after resurrection that the message of the gospel was authenticated.

He said that Prophet Isaiah had earlier talked about the redemptive role that Jesus would come and offer for the whole world. “According to Apostle Paul, if Christ has not woken up, our service would have been in vain. Christ has paid the penalty for our sins”.

While talking on the importance of Christ’s resurrection, Fabunmi said, “it makes our gospel true and believable – Rom. 1:18; it makes Christ’s sacrifice acceptable; it gives hope to the hopeless; it justifies us. It nullifies judgment on us; and it paved the way for the outpouring of the holy spirit – John 16:6-8” among others. He said “it’s for your good that I should die because, without that, the comforter wouldn’t come according to John 2:28.”

The Baptist minister said that the power of resurrection is like a dynamite that crushes saying that it is, ‘incomprehensible and indescribable’. While talking on the characteristics nature of the power of resurrection, he said, “it is mysterious; it is supernatural – Rom. 16; it is authoritative Matt. 28:18. Phil 2:9-10:11, Luke 10-19, Heb 13:5; it is evangelistic – Act 1:8 and it is penetrating and unstoppable – Luke 24:36-39.

He noted that believers can only walk in Christ’s power of resurrection if there was genuine repentance; ready to become a disciple and always thirst for the word of God. The minister of God prayed for the congregation.
