The Orangun of Oke-Ila, in Osun state, Oba Adedokun Abolarin has expressed disappointment over the rate at which the real democracy has eluded Nigeria.

Oba Abolarin who stated this at the June 12, 2019 Democracy Day in Akure organised by the Ondo state government said philosophically that Nigeria may not experience true democracy in the next 20 to 30 years when the present generation are not likely to be there.

The theme of the event was “Democracy Day: What The Future Holds”.

According to him, those that are reaping the fruit of democracy today should deem it fit to honour those that fought for the enthronement of democracy in the country.

His words, “How can I forget Ken Sarowiwa, Pa  Abraham Adesanya, Chief Bola Ige and a host of others who most of us here can attest to their steadfastness”.

He expressed the need for government in power should create the avenue to honour Journalists, like Dare Babarinsa, Dele Giwa and other warriors of the struggle for Democracy at one time or the other.

The Orangun of Oke-Ila who was the Chairman of the occasion urged those in power to commence the Preparation for the Future Skills by “grooming the Youths in readiness for the future”.

He however condemned the selfishness of the Elites which calls for urgent attention among various stake holders in the society.

The monarch also stressed that democracy and nation building is a process and should be used to build the future.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu saluted President Muhammadu Buhari for the honour done MKO Abiola and the entire Yoruba race for the  highest  post humor recognition and award bestowed on MKO and his family particularly for proposing to name  Abuja National Stadium after him.

Governor Akeredolu who was represented by his deputy, Hon. Agboola Ajayi however assured the commitment of Ondo state government to the June 12 annual celebration.
