“Restoration agenda which he has kick started in 2015 in all facets of Nigeria including the health sector

“We have built on what we met at the health ministry in November 2015. The Muhammadu Buhari Administration has over the last 3 years conducted strategic repositioning of the nation’s health system. We have developed the National Health Policy 2016, initiated an ambitious programme of revitalizing 10,000 Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) across 10,000 political wards across the country. We have upgraded over 4000 PHCs in partnership with States governments and development partners.

“We are implementing the Save One Million Lives Initiative to facilitate rapid development by states of the Primary Health Care System. This will provide the opportunity for each State in Nigeria to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) individually. The SOML-PforR’s is focused on improving primary healthcare and increasing insurance coverage especially for the most vulnerable in society. Also, we have developed the Second National Strategic Health Development Plan (2018-2022), re-established the National HIV Treatment and Prevention Programmem.

“Implementing Upgrade of Cancer Treatment Facilities in 8 Tertiary Health Institutions. The Cancer Centre in National Hospital is fully functional and can treat up to 100 patients daily”

“We have equally supported Bio-engineering programme in LUTH and 3 other Institutionsn, initiated a Public-Private Initiative (Bio-Vaccines Nigeria) on local vaccine production. As you may be aware, our vision is to ensure universal coverage, to make health care accessible to all Nigerians irrespective of their social status.”

“Our bid to ensure Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is gaining momentum as we have revived which is a pointer to why our vaccination for children has improved, child and maternal mortality dropped, malaria prevalence crashed and rate of the communicable and non-communicable diseases are on the down ward trend, he concluded.
