Ospoly Women Celebrate Week, Donate N.2m Items To Orphanage

Women in Technical Education in Osun State Polytechnic, Iree have donated items worth about Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (N250,000.00) to motherless babies in Osun State.

This formed part of a three day programme marking the Women Week in the Institution.

The women under the auspices of Women in Technical Education and Employment led by Mrs. Olayinka Raimi were at the motherless home Jaleyemi Osogbo, Abiye Orphanage Home, Abike Orphanage Osogbo and Iragbiji Orphanage Center donated food items, cloth, detergents, provision and other basic items needed by the motherless babies.

While speaking at the Jaleyemi motherless home, the coordinator of the association, Mrs. Olayinka Raimi who expressed the passion of the women for the children expressed her optimism in the lives of the children, saying “I am sure that the children will be great men and women in this country. They are not different from our children at home. Nigerians need to extend hands of fellowship to them in their feeding, training and education. They are created by God to succeed in life and they will surely succeed.

The programme which started with a walk to live exercise on Monday was concluded with a lecture entitled “Career Woman! An Asset to the Family and the Nation”

While given his remark at the programme held at the Institution’s Multi Purpose Hall, the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Woye Olaniran who extolled contributions of the women to the development of the Polytechnic described women as necessary assets to national development.

Dr. Olaniran called on authorities of government at all levels to ensure that women are recognized in any administration. He noted that they are good advisers, pillars of success and partners in progress.

In her key note address, former Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation in the State of Osun, Professor (Mrs.) Olubukola Oyawoye charged the women not to neglect their domestic responsibilities in their discharge of duties. She urged them not to allow complexes to intimidate them in their various professions. She noted that they are special creatures, who God had given various talents and skills to perform wonderfully more than their male counterparts. She called on the Federal Government to increase the population of women in the National Executive Council and other areas of governance.

Professor Oyawoye however enjoined the women to be humble and shun all forms of anti-social behaviours that could make them to lose the dignity of their motherhood.

Also, in her lecture, Dr. Mrs. Adewole Orimogunje of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede enthused that no nation could grow without immense contributions of women. She submitted that women are invaluable assets to the family and the nation. She advocated for respect for women and training of women at all levels of Education, saying that women should be given a pride of place in Nigeria in order to record tremendous development in the socio-educational and technological advancement of the country.

Dignitaries present at the occasion included the Director-General of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, Mrs. Jumoke AKinjoola who was represented by Mrs. Adeola Adebayo.
