Group Seeks Unity Of Yorubaland

With a view to resuscitating the lost unity among Yorubas in Southwest and across the country towards political and economic development, A socio- political group called Southwest political group has held a meeting at the late Adedubu Hall, Molete Ibadan.

The founder and coordinator of the group, Hon Folasade Oludara Odunjo said that the group is initiated to fully support and collectively work together for any Yoruba member in the present geo-political zone who have political ambition irrespective of parties.

According to Hon Odunjo, the Yorubas need to wake up from their slumber so as not to allow the labour of our past heroes be in vain.

She explained further that the group is primarily concerned about how Yorubas like other tribes will have a good stand in the helm of affairs of this country.

She added that almost in every ministries in this present administration, Yorubas are shielded from the forefront.

“Our past heroes and leaders in Yorubaland have left a good legacy for us, laid a good foundation and we also must do the same for our children and incoming generation” she added

She urged people and lovers of Yoruba heritage to actively and strongly retain their loyalty to put an end to deceiving one another but rather see ourselves as one.

While speaking on the immense benefit the group has, Comrade Yakubu from Akinyele local government said the group will strongly address the governance system of the country and the unyielded role of Yorubas.

He said that the impact of Yorubas in the governance of this country is less recognised.

“Then Nigeria was operating regionalization which are Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo later metamorphosed into Geo-political zone but this does not in any way favour Yorubaland.Yoruba is only given six states”

“But I think it’s high time Yorubas woke up from their slumber and think, have focus and mission not only on politics but also in every facet of life to help one another as other tribes in this country do and unified” he added

Earlier in his address, Hon Ogunsade Sunday from Oluyole local government enjoined all and sundry that all hands must be on deck to jointly promote Yorubaland politically and socially, stating also that areas like security, education, employment/empowerment and most importantly love should be of paramount to us.

Some participants commended and appreciated Hon Oludara Odunjo for her enthusiasm and passion to restore unity among Yorubas.

The meeting had in attendance Hon Akinfenwa from Itesiwaju local government, Dr Oladele from Ibadan North LG, Alhaja Salimot from Saki West,Alhaja Hausa from Ibadan North West LG among others.
