Aregbesola’s Aide, Oluga Gives Out N.375m To Winners Of A Debate Competition

The Special Adviser to Governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, on Culture and Tourism, Mrs Taiwo Oluga has awarded N375,000 to the winners of the debate competition she organized.

The competition was organized to complement Aregbesola’s effors on education in the state as well as building effective communicators amongst students in both the native language English, as an official language.

The debate had participants drawn across the Government High and Middle Schools in Osun West Senatorial District.

Presenting the cash prizes to the winners of the Essay competition, Oluga said the programme was aimed to complement the good gestures of Governor Aregbesola on education.

She commended the present administration in the state for restructuring, revolutionalizing and revamping the education system which had hitherto suffered a great setback from successive administrations in the state.

She described the Essay ‎competition as a driven force mechanism aimed at stimulating the reading and mental capacity of the young ones by preparing them for any challenge in the course of their studies.

‎Oluga commended Aregbesola for the privilege given her to serve in his government, a gesture which she said had assisted her to impact meaningfully on the lives of the people, particularly the young ones.

She disclosed that her education support foundation had in the last few years recorded successes in various aspects of human empowement just as scholarhip awards had been given to reaonable numbers of indivduals in the senatorial district.

According to her, “The education landscape of our great state has changed for good in the past seven and half years of this administation.

“There is no doubt in the fact that Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who embodied passion of better future for all the children in the state has turned around the socioeconomic fortunes of our state through his unprecedented education revolution.

“The state-of-the-art schools built across the nooks and cranny of Osun are clear testimonial achievements the present administration had recorded which no one has surpassed or can surpass.

“‎This debate with its theme, ‘Social Media Disconnect more than Connects’ aimed to train young ones to know how to use social media in positive way for the advantage of the community and state at large”, she stressed.

Speaking, the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prince Gboyega Famodun, lauded the objectives and views of the organizer of the event, saying the gesture will go a long way to complement the state’s efforts on education sector.

Famodun commended the sponsor of the programme for organizing debate competition which he said would help students to interact with themselves and examine their knowledge capacity for better improvement.

He charged the participating pupils to make good use of the social media as well as the table of knowledge popularly called “Opo Imo”, a computer device given them by the state government in positive ways that would help them to improve academically.

The APC Chairman in the state also admonished the parents to lay good foundation for their children as part of efforts to support teachers and government in their collective efforts to bring the best in their wards.

The occasion however saw a student of Olofa Middle and High School in Egbedore Local Government Area, Oseni Nafisat going home with 150,000 with an addition of fifty thousand naira earned from a member of the high table for emerging as the overall winner.

Nafisa, an individual living with disability emerged the best among other thirty students who qualified for the final round.

Akinboyewa Bernice, a student of Agbonran High School, Ede South local government, won one hundred thousand naira for taking second position while the third position went to Adebayo Anthonia of Oluponna High school with a cash reward of N75,000.

The two male pupils among the finalists, Patient David and Agboola Francis settled for the fourth and fifth positions with N30,000 and 20,000 cash reward respectively

All the students present at the program were given the leadership text book for free.
