Less than three weeks to Osun gubernatorial election slated for September 22, the runner off in the Peoples Democratic Party’s primary, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, has cautioned the party’s flag bearer, Ademola Adeleke to be honourable in his dealings in order not to jeopardise the party’s chances.

Senator Ademola Adeleke

This was contained in a press statement signed by Ogunbiyi’s press officer, Comrade Ismail Afolabi and made available to press men on Tuesday,
It described a statement credited to Adekeke’s campaign organisation that several attempts have been made to reconcile with Ogunbiyi as fallacious and full of lies, saying the PDP’s standard bearer should be honourable and caution his media team.

” In the interest of the PDP, one would not have responded to the indecorous utterances from Senator Ademola’s campaign office and hope that the governorship candidate and his team will learn to be honourable over time, if they had simply stopped at their extreme enmity and not resorted to telling serial lies against Dr. Ogunbiyi.

“It is not unknown to the great people of Osun and of course, the PDP faithful that Dr. Ogunbiyi actually won the July 21st primary election of the party but Senator Ademola dubiously clinched the gubernatorial ticket through manipulation. And since then, the Senator and some of his followers have been calling for the head of Ogunbiyi.

“Already, it is almost seven weeks after the party primaries and Ademola’s camp has infamously remained hell bent at bringing Ogunbiyi to his knees for no just course.

“The claims that Senator Ademola made several attempts to get appointment to meet Dr Akin Ogunbiyi is totally false. At no time did Ogunbiyi ever advise Dr Deji Adeleke to go and meet his people. In fact, under a normal circumstances, it would have been gentlemanly on the Adelekes’ part to insist on meeting with Dr Ogunbiyi before meeting with his people.

“Furthermore, contrary to the skewed claim by Senator Adeleke’s campaign office, Dr. Ogunbiyi is accessible to all and on collision course with none. As a core party man and peace loving person, shortly after the controversial primaries, he publicly declared that he has nothing against the Adelekes and expressed willingness to work for the party.

“As a selfless and futuristic team, it is worth noting that neither Ogunbiyi nor his camp prays for failure of the party at the September 22 governorship election. Consequently, the Senator’s campaign office, since it appears to be totally bereft of innovative ideas, is further advised to device strategic plans to deal with the anxiety that has gripped the camp over the party members’ lukewarm attitude towards the campaign.

“We also advise the Adeleke’s campaign team to focus on issues that will promote unity and victory of the party at the polls. They should drop their arrogance and stop chasing shadows”, the statement read.
