Osun LG Election : APC Members Protest Alleged Imposition Of Candidate
Leaders of All the Progressive Congress (APC) from Ibokun in Osun, On Wednesday staged a protest against alleged imposition of candidate by the party leadership for the forthcoming Local Government election in the state.
The leaders of the party who stormed the party secretariat in Osogbo as early as 9am, said they would not accept imposition of candidate for councillorship position for the election.
Mr Adepoju Adejori, the chairman of Ibokun ward 1, who led the protest told newsmen that the party leader must announce the winner of the primary conducted for councillorship position at the ward.
Adejori said the leaders of the party followed the party guidelines in conducting the primary, adding that the candidate the people voted for must be announced.
He said the decision of party members on Nov. 20 primary to select candidate for councillorship position for the Local Government election must be respected.
” We say no to imposition of candidate in Ibokun and we implore all leaders of our party to restore our mandate.
“Even if the party deem it fit to conduct another primary in Ibokun ward 1, we are ready.”
” We are sure that our candidate, Mr Jide Agbaje will still win the primary but any imposition will not be accepted.
Reacting to the protest, the APC publicity Secretary in the state, Mr Kunle Oyatomi, said there was no imposition of candidate in any of the ward in the state.
Oyatomi said the party would not do what would not be acceptable to its members.
He, however, said the party had started discussing with aggrieved people so as to sort out issues.
” We don’t need to give ourselves bad image.
“We are party of peace, progress and discipline and we will continue to do the right thing. “
