Former interim national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebisi Akande, on Wednesday gave his nod to Osun West Senatorial District to produce Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s Successor.

Akande, a former governor of Osun, who received the leadership of a socio-political group, Osun New Era Group (ONE-G), during a courtesy visit in his country home, Ila-Orangun called on the people of Osun West to be formidable and cohesive in their struggle, with a view to produce a credible candidate for the governorship seat.

He said it will be grossly unfair if the senatorial District is schemed out of producing the next Governor of the state.

Akande maintained that the two remaining senatorial districts (Osun Central and Osun East) have had their fair share of governing Osun in the past, with present Governor Aregbesola, who hails from Osun East Senatorial District, stressing that “of the three senatorial districts in the state, it’s only the west that has never had the opportunity of exercising a minimum of one full tenure since the state was created in 1991.

He stated further that “save for the truncated administration of the late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, the district has never had another shot at the governorship but rather supported others to ensure success for their candidates”.

The Groups Coordinator, Comrade Rasaq Alarape expressed the group’s gratitude to Akande for supporting Osun West Senatorial District to produce Osun’s next governor.

Alarape said they would intensify their advocacy to ensure that their struggles were not in vain as political parties, groups and other stakeholders have commenced the preparation for 2018 governorship election.
