A Member of the National Assembly and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Albert Abiodun Adeogun has called for truce over the eth- no communal crisis in Ile-Ife where many lives and properties worth Millions of Naira were lost last week.
Adeogun, an indigene of Ile Ife in the Ife East Federal Constituency in a press statement after his visit to the scene, condemned the violence which started recently at Sabo area of the town pointing out that there was no need for such conflict between the Hausa people and their Yoruba host community who have been living harmoniously for centuries.
The Lawmaker who is a governorship aspirant in Osun state next year said, “it is unfortunate that such crisis could be allowed and more unfortunately ,it was aggravated by hoodlums.”
“Indeed, the crisis is detestable in the cradle of Yoruba. Government should set up a probe to find out the remote and immediate cause and anybody found culpable should be made to face the wrath of the law,” He recommended.
Adeogun said  that the allegation made against some security officers that they took sides with an ethnic group while quelling the crisis should be properly investigated adding  “as a retired Customs Area Controller, I know that security officers in such a duty should maintain absolute neutrality. How come some of them took sides during their duty.”
The Lawmaker commended both the Federal and state governments for their quick intervention which prevented the crisis from escalating further adding “we are lovers of peace and any threat to peace should be resisted.”
Adeogun also commended the Ooni of Ife Oba Ogunwusi Enitan who has consistently been promoting peace and harmony not only in Osun State but all over Nigeria stressing “he is a pride to the Yoruba race.”
It was alleged that a woman was the cause of the crisis that led to the violent conflict in the community which the hoodlums hijacked to loot the properties of innocent people in the area.
