An Igala socio-cultural youths organisation, the `Ojuju-Agbadufu Igala’, in Kogi, has called on Gov. Yahaya Bello to ensure more security presence in the eastern part of the state.

The call is contained in a communique from a meeting of the organisation held on Monday, in Anyigba.

Signed by Mr Moses Idakwo, its Clerk, the group decried the rising spate of kidnappings and other criminal activities in Igala land, and called for special government attention to check the trend.

It stated that security presence was not being felt in the eastern senatorial district, and urged the government to take urgent measures that would secure lives and property.

The group also called on the Kogi Government to pay more attention to the welfare of workers and pensioners, noting that the two groups had done much to the state and deserved their entitlements.

It also advised the state government to follow due process in its resolve to to lay off workers, and particularly criticised the unending staff screening exercise which, it said, had caused hardship to innocent people.

The group expressed reservation over the manner political appointments in Kogi were being handled, and alleged that Igala, the largest group in the state, was not getting the deserved attention.

The organisation, however, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for nominating Prof. Stephen Ocheni for appointment as minister, to replace the late James Ocholi, and urged the National Assembly to screen and confirm him “as soon as possible”.

“Kogi State has been excluded from the Federal Executive Council for over a year now; we want an end to that,” it  said.
