Table Toppers Seek Away Point In Crucial NPFL Clash

Plateau United will be hoping to maintain their title challenge when they face wounded El-Kanemi Warriors FC in Maiduguri this Sunday in a top of the bill clash of matchday-27 in the Nigeria Professional Football League.

With just 11 games remaining in the season, Plateau United are looking to land the knockout blow as they slug it out with eighht-placed Warriors in the fight for NPFL supremacy.

The Kennedy Boboye’s side hold a five-point lead at the top, but El-Kanemi Warriors can temporarily trim the gap to two if they win the encounter on Sunday and MFM also beat ABS at the Agege Stadium Lagos.

El-Kanemi Warriors suffered their biggest defeat in the NPFL this season at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar, as they were hammered 4-0 by Enyimba, but they will be desperate to redeem themselves with a win on Sunday.They have conceded ten goals in their last five games.

At the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo, Akwa United face former champions of the NPFL Enyimba  who sit third in the table, one point ahead of the their hosts. The reverse fixture ended 1-0 in favour of Enyimba at the UJ Esuene Stadium Calabar.

The Promise Keepers with a game in hand, have reeled off five successive victories at home, sparking dreams of clinching a continental ticket at the end of the season, but they will be buoyed of the fact that the People’sElephants are in great form going into this tie, following their 4-0 thumping of El-Kanemi Warriors on Wednesday.

Second placed MFM FC will hope Plateau United slip up in Maiduguri as they look to extend their impressive home form with another win at the Agege Stadium Lagos at the expense of ABS. The Olukoya Boys are just five points adrift leaders Plateau United.

Kano Pillars will look to take out their frustrations on Rivers United on Sunday in Kano after they lost two points away to ABS in Ilorin by a controversial penalty kick goal converted by Samuel Oyedeji in the 89th minute. A win for Pillars, currently placed eighth in the NPFL log, will see the Sai Masu Gida side move into the top five if Enyimba, Akwa United ,El Kanemi Warriors and Lobi Stars fail  to win.

Fatai Amoo and his Shooting Stars flops host Wikki Tourists looking to redeem themselves in the eyes of their furious home fans after their 1-0 defeat at Rivers United last Saturday. 3SC, currently in 19th position, can’t afford another debacle as they try to move out of the relegation zone.

Gombe United FC, three points from safety, face Nasarawa United FC. They have no margin for error either as they try to avoid relegation.

Katsina Utd travel to Nnewi to play FC IfeanyiUbah, while Sunshine Stars host Abia Warriors in Sagamu.

Bottom of the table and 10 points from safety, Remo Stars travel to Niger Tornadoes and are desperate for a win in Minna. Fatai Osho’s side have recorded only seven wins, conceding 13 defeats and have recorded six draws.
