There is apprehension among civil servants and All Progressives  Congress (APC) in Bayelsa state, following indications that the State government has allegedly pencilled down over 500 civil servants for sanction for supporting APC in the just-concluded governorship election in the state.
Daily Trust learnt that the affected civil servants may not receive their salaries for the months of December and January as part of the   punishment for having sympathy for the APC during the elections.

The government was said to have constituted ‘a special committee’ in each of the eight the local government areas of the state to ‘take note of civil servants who were pro-APC before and during the election.
It was gathered that the directive to sanction them was based on the report submitted by the ‘special committee’ shortly after INEC declared Dickson, winner of the election.
Their names were said to have been forwarded to the Due Process Bureau which operates the automated payroll system of the state government for ‘necessary action’.
A government source said the directive emanated from the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and routed through the office of the Head of Service (HoS) to the Due Process Bureau headed by Dickson’s Special Adviser on Treasury Matters, Mr. Timi Seipulo, for the implementation.
One of the affected workers who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said, the accountant in their establishment, hinted them about their missing names in the payroll for December and January.
According to him, they were directed to seek clarification at the office of the Head of Service, Mr. Peter Singabele when they complained to the Due Process unit.
He said the HoS confirmed to them it was “the truth of the matter.”
The HoS however declined to comment on the matter over the phone, insisting that it was not a telephone discussion.
He was however said to be busy in his office when Daily Trust  made attempts to get his reaction in his office.
