The apex Court , Supreme Court of Nigeria (SCN) on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 affirmed the election of Alhaji Yahaya Bello as the duly elected Governor of Kogi State..

Affirming his election, the seven Justices of the Supreme Court (JSC) unanimously dismissed all the appeals filed by Hon. Abiodun Faleke(APC)  and former Governor Idris Wada(PDP) respectively.

The Justices upheld the earlier rulings by the State Governorship and Legislative Houses Election Tribunal and the Court of Appeal respectively.

The ruling automatically brought an end to the speculations, rumours and anxiety that has continued to trail many towns in Kogi State including Lokoja, the State capital and Abuja abruptly and was replaced by wild jubiliation by the supporters of Governor Bello and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a telephone chat with the Special Adviser (Print Media), Ademu Ndako, he gave the victory to God and the entire good people of Kogi State. He reiterated the earlier expressed confidence of the Governor’s team in the judiciary.

The verdict has effectively confounded Hon.Abiodun Faleke and former Governor Idris Wada with hard reality that it has put an end to months of judicial struggle to truncate the tenure of Governor Bello as Kogi State Governor.

Some of the political pundits in Lokoja that spoke with CityMirrorNews opined that the victory would spur Governor Yahaya Bello to settle down for the serious business of governance as distractions due to litigation has effectively been brought to an end.

They equally opined that Hon. Abiodun Faleke and former Governor Idris Wada would have to go back to the drawing board and start re-strategizing for 2019 elections. They added that their actions and inactions in a couple of months would determine whether they would be able to sustain their followerships or not.
