20-Year-Old Steals Motorcycle in Police Headquarter in Osun

Audience at an Osogbo magistrate court were awestruck on Monday when a 20-year-old man, Abbeb Wasiu confessed to stealing a motorcycle at the Osogbo Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force.

The audience wondered how the accused person managed to steal a motorcycle at a police headquarter without being cut by the security operatives.

Wasiu had stolen the motorcycle before police were tipped by a mechanic who wanted to buy it from him in Ilobu, Headquarters of Irepodun Local Goevrnment area of Osun State.

The mechanic was said to have asked for the receipt of the motorcycle, but Wasiu was unable to provide it, nor any document to prove ownership of the machine.

Sensing that the machine could be a stolen one, the mechanic alerted the police while led to the arrest of the accused person.

A charge sheet read in court states: “On the 23rd day of August 2016 at about 11am at Nigeria Police State headquarter Osogbo magisterial district did steal one Boxer Bajaj motorcycle with Reg. No SGB 767 QB of one Wodi Michael ‘M’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390 Cap of Criminal Code, Cap 34 Vol II Laws of the Osun state Nigeria 2002.”

Wasiu, who had no lawyer to stand for him, pleaded guilty to the charge.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Mereti Wilson said the fact of the case was as stated in the charge sheet.

Magistrate Abibat Bashir convicted the accused person following his plead and sentenced her to three months imprisonment with an option of N10, 000.
