Police, Armed Robbers in Shootout in Ibadan, one Killed

A gang of armed robbers has killed a 40-year-old landlord, Abideen Oladejo whose house was raided during the week at Kokoko Estate near Iyana Offa at Egbeda local Government area of Oyo State.

The wife of the Chairman of Landlord Association in the area (name withheld) was also shot but escaped death by the whiskers from the hoodlums who attempted to rape her.

The daredevil robbers had been holding the community to ransom for many days during the week.

Nemesis, however, caught up with members of the gang when officers of the State Anti Robbery Squad led by Superintendent Sola Aremu engaged the robbers in a shootout, leading to the killing of one of them at Alafara Area of the city.

The efforts of Police was complemented by local vigilante in the area, it was reliably gathered.

One of the suspects, Moroof who received gunshot and initially escaped, was arrested by SARS operatives where he was receiving treatment in a herbalist home.

Other suspects arrested are Ojeniyi Ibrahim and Taiwo Odetola who were under interrogation as at press time.

The DPO for Iyana Offa could not be reached but the Spokesman for the State Police Command, Superintendent Adekunle Ajisebutu said: “Some arrests have been made and the communities should be rest assured of their safety as well as their properties.

“The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sam Adegbuyi has zero tolerance for crime .He has directed that all the remaining suspects must be fished out from their hideouts and be made to face the full wrath of the law.”

Meanwhile, an attempt to rob Methodist Cathedral Church, Agodi, Ibadan, has been foiled and two church workers who allegedly masterminded the crime arrested and being interrogated by detectives.

All the suspects would soon be charged to court after their investigation, the PPRO assured.
