The Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, Senator Babajide Omoworare, has said that the withdrawal of forgery case against principal officers of the Senate was needed for the country to progress.

He said this during an interaction with journalists in Osogbo, capital of Osun State.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government recently withdrew a case of forgery of the senate rule against Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu and other principal officers of the National Assembly.

Omoworare maintained that the withdrawal of the case was a sacrifice necessary to pave way for progress and development in the country.

He said, “I’m not happy with what is happening in the 8th Senate which has stalled the progress that we would have made. We would have made appreciable progress if there was no bickering in the Senate. And there is no way the executive arm could succeed when the Senate is in trouble.

“‎We have to get the politics right from onset but unfortunately, we didn’t get it right then but a lot of things are ongoing to ensure that we get things right. A lot of sacrifices also need to be done because the whole idea of politics is good governance.

“If we have any opportunity to reset things right, we should. This is to ensure that progress is achieved in the interest of the people, economy and Nigeria as a country.”

Commenting on the clampdown on some judges, Omoworare explained that the arrest of the justices was a move to fight corruption as promised by the All Progressive Congress (APC) when campaigning.

While urging the executive arm of government to respect other organs of government, Omoworare asked the judiciary to purge itself to sanitise the bar and bench.

“I don’t want to justify any action. One major plan of the current government is to fight corruption. Probably, the method may be looked at. If this method is not adopted, would there have been proofs? I think FG wouldn’t have taken such action if it has not gotten some proofs,” he added.

He, however, expressed doubt over the successful implementation of the 2016 budget, identifying paucity of fund as a hindrance.

According to him, there is a need for a critical assessment of ‎the state of the country’s economy.

He said, “‎The economy has been a major challenge ‎and we must accept that the APC-led government inherited a corruption leading fabric society. For us to achieve anything, we need to look at our economy for a second time and develop our Small Scale Business.

“For b‎udget to be effective, there must be revenue and insurgency reduced the oil output leading to reduction in income. The challenge of infrastructure is also as a result of fund. The current budget cannot be fully implemented again.”
