The National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS) has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Ibraheem Idris and Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi over the threat to the safety of the Osun indigenes residing in Ogbomoso, the hosting community of the crisis ridden Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH).

NAOSS expressed concern over alleged persistent attack on Osun students and staffs of the university, calling on the police IG and the Ajimobi to beef up security on the campus and in the community.

Signed by the National President and Secretary of the association, Comrade Bashiru Oladejo and Ayoola Sheun respectively, NAOSS held that the prevailing circumstances in Ogbomosho with the reports of “incessant attacks” of Osun indigene over the ownership tussle of LAUTECH required urgent attention of the security agencies to secure the lives and properties of the Osun indigenes.

According to NAOSS, despite assurance from both Osun and Oyo state governments on safety of lives of Osun students and staff, the reality in Ogbomosho was that Osun indigenes were being persistently humiliated, assaulted and harassed from sponsored thugs in the town.

A copy of the petition made available to CityMirrorNews on Tuesday reads: “Despite the assurances from various quarters to protect Osun indigenes, our people are continuously living in serious apprehension and fear of attacks in coordinated efforts to chase them away from our collective patrimony.

“We are compelled to cry to the Inspector General of Police and Oyo State Government to protect our people, especially the staff and students of the university who have been living in Ogbomosho for decades.

“For your information, some notorious sponsored thugs are making life more difficult for our people in the town, their residences, businesses and other belongings are under serious treats.

“On daily basis, we are receiving reports of attacks from the students and staffs which have forced Osun indigenes to desert their homes. We considered this as unjust, criminal and violation of the rights and privileges of the students and staffs.

“To complicate the issue unexpectedly, the attack is being coordinated by some individuals and associations especially the so called Ogbomoso parapo, members of which have been persistently threatening our people.

“We, therefore, called on the IG and Governor Ajimonbi to urgently arrest the situation by providing adequate security of live and property for our people.”

The union also called on prominent traditional rulers, including Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and the Oba Akani Saliu Adetunji to prevail on Ogbomonsho parapo and the Soun of Ogbomosho not to divide Yoruba race on the ownership of LAUTECH.
