FG, Aregbesola, Ooni Launch Cashew Plantation in Osun

IMG_1465385923233The Federal Government, Osun State Government and the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi on Wednesday June 8, 2016 flagged off cashew plantation in Ogudu area of Ile-Ife, Osun state.

Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture, Alhaji Audu Ogbe led the Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Oba Ogunwusi Ojaja II to officially inaugurate the cashew plantation in the state.

The Federal Government has concluded plan to launch similar programme in all the 36 states of the federation, but Osun is the first state to embrace the initiative.

The cashew plantation is part of the move by the FG to promote agriculture and diversify the country’s economy.

According to the agriculture minister, Ogbe, cashew plantation was the first item on the agricultural agenda of the FG, after which attention would be shifted to cocoa and banana plantation.

The Minister stated that the youths would be the beneficiaries of the laudable agricultural programmes of the FG, stating that the time has come to empower the youths and overcome the challenge of unemployment in the nation.

In his address, Aregbesola felicitated with the people of Ile-Ife on the cashew plantation programme, saying that the state has enough arable and fertile land for farming.

The governor also urged the Federal Government to consider the state in other subsequent economic and agricultural programmes.

In his goodwill message, the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan described the programme as a new dawn for the youths and the people of Ile-Ife, urging them to embrace agriculture.

One of the farmers in Ogudu, Mr Sunday Felix also appreciated Osun State Government for the contribution, promising that the farmers in his area would take care of the farm for the common good of the state.
