There are indications that the Department of Security Service (DSS) in Osun State has initiated investigation into the alleged theft of the official bus of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Osun Council.
CitymirrorNews’s investigation revealed that the DSS has been inviting people in respect of the alleged theft of the bus and the NUJ crisis in general.
It was learnt that the DSS was acting on a letter sent to it by the Acting Chairman of the Osun NUJ, Comrade Kehinde Ayantunji, alleging that the controversial two-member caretaker committee set up by the National President of the NUJ, Mr Waheed Odusile, were responsible for the theft of the bus.
Ayantunji, in the letter dated, August 01, 2016 accused the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Ojuolape Ojuolape Ukeme-Bassy and one Adegboyega Aderinwale of hiring an unknown car thief syndicate to break the door of the bus and disarm its key and security.
He alleged that 22-saeter bus, which valued N8million, was stolen at the NUJ Press Centre where it was packed.
The letter which was obtained by CityMirrorNews on Monday, August 8, 2016 reads: “I traveled out of the state capital on Monday July 25 and returned on Sunday 31 of July and could not find the bus at the premise of the press centre where it was parked since March.
“When made enquires as to the whereabouts of the bus, I made to understand that one Ojuolape Ukeme-Bassy, and Adegboyega Aderinwa hired a car thief syndicate (still unknown) to forcefully break the door of the buss, criminally break the buss ignition security and charted away the bus.
“As at the time of writing this letter, I have not sighted the bus, but somebody informed me that it was sighted in Ilesa. I have notified the whole membership of our union in the state on whose authority I am writing this letter.
“I also have the authority of all members to use your good office to assist in recovering the bus. The whole members of the union have also directed that any members who came about the bus anywhere should do everything legitimately to recover it and or supply information in the regards.”
CityMirrorNews gathered that the DSS has invited Ukeme-Bassy; Adegboye, Ayantunji and others in connection with the stolen bus.
When contacted on phone, Ayantunji, the Osun NUJ Acting Chairman confirmed the reports, saying that he was actually invited by the DSS last Thursday.
The medium learnt that the bus was found in the possession of Ukeme-Bassy and Adegboye, who could not account for how they gained entry into the bus and its ignition.
CityMirrorNews has sighted the bus severally at market places and premises of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) being occupied by Ukeme-Bassy, Adegboyega and an unknown man known as omi (water).
