OAU Alumni Association Charges Members To Give Back To The Institution

A call has been made to all stakeholders and the Management of Obafemi Awolowo University to strive to ensure provision of adequate infrastructures such as adequate accommodation for students, conducive lecture theatres and relaxation spots, enhanced health Centre as well as Provision of other basic facilities for effective and efficient teaching and learning.

This call was contained in a communique issued at the end of a three-day retreat held by members of the Great Ife Alumni Association held at Accra, Ghana between Thursday 26th and 28th September, 2019.

Speaking at the opening session of the retreat, the National President of the Great Ife Alumni Association, (Obafemi Awolowo University,) Engr. Wale Olaleye thanked delegates for attending the Retreat and encouraged them to be more involved in the Alumni activities.

Olaleye added that the role of the Alumni in the uplifting and development of the University can never be over emphasised.

He stressed that every Alumnus should be ready to give back in their own little or big ways to the University that made them.

The Delegates at the Great Ife Alumni Retreat were unanimous in the opinion, that the curriculum of the University should be subjected to constant review to make it adequate to meet the emerging needs and challenges of the contemporary society and make their graduates employable in the competitive labour market.

Parents and guardians were encouraged to maintain close relationship with their children and prepare them for successful tertiary education by instilling in them good moral values and encouraging them to emulate good role models in the society, while the University should provide effective counseling services to both students and staff to mitigate the effect of stress and prevent depression.

The Retreat ended on a note that the Great Ife Alumni Association at all level , will not relent in her efforts at improving the lots of the great Instruction.

The Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Eyitayo Ogunbodede in his remarks, expressed deep appreciation to the National President, Engr. Wale Olaleye and his Executive members as well as the Retreat Committee for a job well done. He said programms such as the Retreat would encourage bonding among members and assist them in forging ahead.

He then reiterated some of the land mark achievements of his administration.

Some of the achievement according to the VC include; the establishment of department of aeronautical Engineering and the construction of air strips, construction of an independent gas powered generating plant and establishment of an integrated farm among others.

The Great Ife Alumni Association delegates were received by His Excellency, Olufemi Abikoye, the Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana, who was so excited to see the large number of delegates of Great Ife Alumni Association, from Nigeria.

The technical sessions of the Retreat were hinges on the following issues; University Conflict Management in the 21st Century, Stress/Depression Management in the University role of Alumni, Enhancing participation of the Alumni members in the 21st century and University … linkages in this 21st century.

The Retreat was fun-filled as Delegates visited places of tourist attractions such as Labadi Beach, James Town and Aburi Botanical Garden.
