The newly elected Vice-president of Osogbo National Students’ Union,  Miss Faishat Adetilewa Oyedeji has declared that her emergence would completely change the paradigm of students’ unionism in Osun State.

Oyedeji, a Political Science student of Osun State University polled a total votes of 184, to emerge  in a keenly contested poll held at the palace of Ataoja of Osogbo,  on December 31st, 2018 to defeat her opponent, Aruna Naijat, who is from Osun State College of Education,  Ilesha.

Speaking with newsmen on Friday,  the VP said she was more than ready to give better narrative on the best way to go as students’ movement to build egalitarian society.

She argued that the present posture of unionism,  where unionists are gradually becoming political errand boys for politicians should be addressed for better political future.

According to her,  the essence of students’ unionism is to critically engage authorities to demand good governance and better welfare for it’s members.

” I consider my emergence as a conscious call to service,  in which I must make a significant difference and change the old order in the students ‘ movement in this state.

“Obviously,  there is a pathetic deterioration of vibrant students’ unionism in Africa,  and Nigeria in particular  as a result of desperation of the political class,  who desperately influence the youths for parochial political interest.

“I am convinced that there are a whole lot that can be done by us to change this trend and start demanding for good governance and adherence to democratic principles and ethos for better future.

“In the spirit of the former Prime Minister of Philippines,  Gloria Aroyo,  who posited that the greatest litmus test of a good leader is ability to be at the front leading,  at the middle inspiring,  and at the back defending the superior interest of his followers,  I pledge to live above board”, she resorted.
