Court Remands Two For Attempting To Kill Forestry Guards In Osun

A Magistrate Court Sitting In Osogbo, Osun State capital, has ordered the remand of two suspects, Taiwo Ganiyu and Oladokun Olaitan for attempting to kill two forestry guards.

The victims, Akanji Olaide and Kola Adeniji were performing their lawful duties at Government Reserves Area In Osun when the suspects attacked them.

The duo were arraigned on Wednesday before Magistrate A.K Ajala on six count charges bothering on attempt to kill, conspiracy to wit felony and assault.

Briefing the court, the Police Prosecutor, Faremi told the court that the duo committed the offence on November 24 at Elawasing, Shasha, forestry reserve, Area 5 in Osun.

The prosecutor explained that the two defendants and others now at large conspired to commit felony to wit attempting to Kill two forestry guards who were performing their lawful duties.

He said the duo forcefully entered the forest and also attempted to kill forestry officer, Akanli Olaide, by hitting him with log of wood on his ankle to which he sustained internal injury and which he could not use the leg to walk freely while performing his lawful duty.

He added that the two defendant inflicted assault ocasioning harm on Akanji Glaide by violently attacked him while perferming his legitimate duty at Government Forestry Reserve Area 5.

According to the prosecutor the offence contravene Section 517 ,320(1) punishable under Section 320(2)
355, 81 of the of Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State. code.

The two defendants pleaded not guilty to the allegations slammed against them.

In her ruling, Magistrate Ajala remanded the two defendants into Ife correctional centre and thereby adjourned the case till December 21 for hearing.
