14 Environmental Defaulters Arraigned In Osun

No fewer than 14 persons were on Thursday dragged before an Osogbo Magistrate Court for allegedly dumping refuse on the media of the road.

The suspected environmental defaulters were apprehended by the officials of the Osun Waste Management Agency (OWMA) while allegedly perpetrating the act at Testing Ground area, Osogbo, the State capital.

The accused persons who wore a remorseful look in the dock pleaded guilty to the charges slammed against them.

subsequently fined and warned them to desist from the habit of dumping refuse on the media of the road.

Reacting, the Acting General Manager of OWMA, Sanitarian. Femi Henry Ogunbamiwo, said the affected people were arrested for violating the environmental laws of the state.

According to Ogunbamiwo, residents of the state have been warned against dumping waste on road sides, river channels and other unproved sites but some of them had remained adamant.

The OWMA boss, warned residents of the state against violating the environmental law, saying that the law was enacted to ensure environmental sanitation and promote good health and well being of the entire people of the state.

Commending Governor Gboyega Oyetola for creating enabling environment for all and sundry, Ogunbamiwo urged the residents of the state to join hands with government and desist from indiscriminate refuse dumping so as to keep the state safe from epidemics, saying, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”.
